The Muse Duo & Sydney Carbo at the Sunshine Cathedral

A unique vocal program featuring poetry by the famed Garcia Lorca presented in past and modern pieces. Combined with the timelessness of Romantic Lied, this program aims to bring Spanish and Romantic music to life through modern programming.

This program will feature the collaboration of the captivating young soprano Sydney Carbo alongside the one-of-a-kind guitar and piano duo, The Muse Duo. The pieces will utilize the talents of each artist in combination; soprano/guitar, soprano/piano, and soprano/guitar/piano.

Alongside the repertoire, there will be a newly commissioned work by the composer Luke Benedict that implements the text of Garcia Lorca and is written for soprano, guitar, and piano. This will be the centerpiece of the program, highlighting the modern ensemble.

Through Spanish and Romantic vocal repertoire, a unique setting of instruments, and a premiere composition written for the ensemble, this is a rare and engaging modern program that adds to the canon of vocal and chamber repertoire.

Greetings from Spain: Juliani Ensemble

Collin joins the ‘Juiliani Ensemble’ for a saloon concert featuring works of seminal Spanish composer!

About the Series:

This series explores the relationship between art and music in a new, more immersive way, combining art exhibitions and lectures with chamber music concerts, highlighting the ways in which the same themes and ideas are expressed through the two mediums. Our goal is for every audience member to leave our concerts with a deeper understanding of art, music and the creative process. The concert series is made possible through a partnership between the Juliani Ensemble and Primitive Gallery, located in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago. Each concert features a pre-concert discussion that highlights artworks from Primitive's immense and diverse collection relevant to the selection of music.

I am so excited about this series! My sister Claire and I will be giving a few concerts in August that will combine her paintings with pieces of my repertoire. In the concert/art show, we will explain our ideas as to why we think each piece adds a new type of understanding or perspective to the other art form, and in doing so create a cohesive artistic experience. This is an idea we have had for at least two years, and finally it has come to fruition!

There will be three shows in total… come see us!
